Tsegay Wolde-Georgis, Research Associate with the Consortium for Capacity Building (CCB), Institute for Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR) of the University of Colorado at Boulder, Prior to joining CCB, Tsegay held positions with the Center for Capacity Building at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (Boulder, Colorado), the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, University of Natal, South Africa, Asmara University, Eritrea, the Embassy of Ethiopia in Washington D.C. and internships with the International Development Research Center (Ottawa), as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency (Vienna).

In 2012 and 13, Tsegay was hired by the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) as an advisor on climate change adaptation and environmental sustainability where he developed a strategy, hired team members and designed and implemented on the adoption of climate information and sustainability practices by smallholders. Tsegay earned a B.A. from Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), a graduate Diploma from the SAIS – the Johns Hopkins University, an M.A. in international affairs (Rural Dev.) from Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada), and a Ph.D. in international studies from the University of Denver with a dissertation on the survival strategies of farmers to drought in Ethiopia.

His articles have appeared in such publications as Scandinavian Journal of Development Alternatives and Africa Today; he has contributed chapters in over seven volumes. His most recent publication (with Michael H. Glantz) is Biofuels in Africa: A Pathway to Development,(International Research Center for Energy and Economic Development, Occasional Papers: Number Forty-Three, 2009). Tsegay is also a contributor author to Working with Climate Change, Not Against it – Hydro-meteorological Disaster Risk Reduction: A Survey of Lessons Learned for Resilient Adaptation to a changing climate (with Glantz and others, 2014).

His current research interest includes research on the use of climate information for resilient adaptation in the dry lands as well as developing tools for local level resiliency to climate and environmental change in rural areas. He is involved in capacity building outreach activities particularly with Mekelle University’s Ethiopian Institute for Climate and Society both as a board member and adjunct professor.
